The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABCs) have been announced today, with the Guardian revealing sales up 0.4 per cent month-on-month, while the Daily Mail was only daily tabloid to increase sales, at 0.1 per cent.

The change saw the Daily Mail become the UK’s biggest selling Saturday paper for the first time, beating The Sun by about 20,000 copies, the ABC figures reported (2,474,439, compared with the Sun's 2,453,981).

"While we have out sold the Sun on Saturdays previously, this is the first time we have achieved better sales over the course month," said Roland Agambar, chief marketing officer for Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday publisher DMG Media.

The Guardian’s Saturday average circulation rose 0.7 per cent month-on-month to 363,667 month-on-month.

Guardian CCO, David Pemsel, said: “These figures show our continued investments in print and quality journalism are being well received. As well as our agenda-setting coverage on the Snowden files, our reporting of both the UK storms and the phone hacking trials were popular, and we also saw an increase in sales around our coverage on the passing of Lou Reed.”

The ABCs also saw The Sun reach 117,000 digital subscribers since the launch of its Sun+ service in August.

The Sun had an average daily circulation of 2.089 million in November, according to today’s figures.
