Twitter has announced the appointment of Marjorie Scardino, previously Pearson CEO, as the first woman to join its board.
The appointment came following Twitter facing criticism for a lack of women, with Sallie Krawcheck, a former Bank of America Corp. executive calling it a ‘joke’ at a recent Bloomberg LP conference.
Scardino said in a tweet: “There couldn’t be a more exciting time in Twitter’s history to join!” This was her first message on Twitter, and came following the announcement from the platform.
@twitter Thank you. There couldn't be a more exciting time in Twitter's history to join!

The appointment is effective immediately.
