McDonald’s & KFC staff to strike over low pay

McDonald’s & KFC staff to strike over low payMcDonald’s & KFC staff to strike over low pay

Minimum wage fast food workers at McDonald’s and KFC are due to begin a series of rolling strikes across 100 US cities today in protest at salaries of as low as £4.45 an hour.

The strikes are the most tangible front in a publicity campaign geared toward increasing the federal minimum wage after president Barack Obama warned that income inequality ‘posed a fundamental threat to the American dream’.

Last week an estimated 1,500 Walmart stores were hit by worker walkouts in a bid to force the retailer to raise wages and improve conditions.

Obama has called for the minimum wage to be raised to £6.17 back in March but this was blocked by Republican opponents.
