MSNBC anchor Martin Bashir has taken a suspended leave of absence from his role as presenter at the station, after uttering a controversial suggestion that US politician Sarah Palin should have her mouth defecated in.

Since blurting out the unseemly remark Bashir has been notable primarily by his absence from a weekday afternoon news magazine which he hosts, with bosses suggesting he has been ‘on vacation’.

Others view the absence in a different light however with some media commentators expressing the view that Bashir has in fact been suspended for the past two weeks in a forced leave of absence.

Bashir criticised the Republican politician back on 15 November for comparing US indebtedness to China as slavery.

The collation prompted Bashir to remark on-air: “resident dunce Sarah Palin scraping the barrel of her long-deceased mind and using her all-time favorite analogy in an attempt to sound intelligent about the national debt.

“Given her well-established reputation as a world-class idiot, it's hardly surprising that she should choose to mention slavery in a way that is abominable to anyone who knows anything about its abominable history.”

Bashir subsequently apologised on his next show for any offence caused.
