The Kremlin has weighed into a furore surrounding the incongrous placement of a giant Louis Vuitton pavilion, modeled on a suitcase, which has recently sprung up within Moscow’s Red Square.

Vladimir Putin’s government is calling for the removal of the 98ft x 30ft structure which was erected as part of 120th anniversary celebrations of Russia’s most famous department store, GUM.

Louis Vuitton, who collaborated on the venture, state that the controversial building was erected as part of a ‘Spirit of Travel’ exhibition, “dedicated to the legendary personalities who have been clients of the fashion house since its foundation.”

Russian politicians have lambasted the creation for ‘trivialising and denigrating… a sacred place for the Russian state.’

The pavilion had been scheduled to open its doors on 2 December with the proceeds of all ticket sales allocated to a Russian children’s charity.
