A motorist who came to prominence on social media after tweeting about a hit and run incident with a cyclist has been convicted of driving offences and handed a fine by Norwich magistrates court.

Emma Way was forced to issue a grovelling apology after proudly tweeting about knocking over a cyclist, saying: ‘definitely knocked a cyclist off his bike earlier. I have right of way – he doesn’t even pay road tax!’

A subsequent investigation found Way guilty of failing to stop after a collision and failing to report an accident. As a result Way was ordered to pay a £337 fine and stump up £300 in costs as well as having seven penalty points added to her license.

Commenting on the episode Way, who has now quit Twitter, said: “The tweet was spur of the moment. It was ridiculous and stupid and I apologise to all cyclists. It is the biggest regret of my life so far.”
