We Are Social scoops four MiAwards including Grand Prix

It was a quartet of awards for global social media agency We Are Social at the MiAwards in Manchester as the agency scooped four top awards including the prestigious Agency Grand Prix award.

We Are Social was also named Social Media Agency of the Year and the South East’s Best Marketing Business and MD Jim Coleman was crowned the Managing Director of the Year as part of the public vote, which is open to all members of the marketing community.

Now in its fifth year MiAwards looks to recognise and reward the best managed independent marketing services agencies in the UK and this year drew record numbers of entries, all of which were poured over by the judging panel, which was chaired by former DDB VP and founder of Juniper2 Advisory Noel Penrose and included Ian Pearman of AMV BBDO, Jim Brigden of iProspect, Andy Edge of Odeon Cinemas, Barry Dudley of Green Square, Karen Wellman of Pearlfisher, Vicky Reeves of Chameleon and Steve Antoniwicz of the RAR.

Other big winners on the night were The Agency, based in Bristol, which collected the Chairman’s Award for being the best small agency to enter this year’s awards. Speaking of The Agency chairman Noel Penrose said: "I wanted to recognise the contribution and importance of small agencies to the marketing communications sector and, though small - with 14 talented people - The Agency punched above its weight with an interesting and diverse client list, strong client retention and impressive campaign ROI. The Agency is young, but is clearly on the fast-track to further growth and success. Definitely one to watch.”

Manchester-based agency Cube3 was named Digital Agency of the Year, Birmingham-based Chapter was named Advertising Agency of the Year and Liverpool-based agency Uniform made it a hat trick of awards over three years again by being named Design Consultancy of the Year.

Leeds agency Intermarketing was named Integrated Agency of the Year, Earnest scooped the B2B Agency Award and Finn PR, also in Leeds, was named PR Consultancy of the Year.

Other winners included MEC which collected the Media Buying Agency award, Pitch Consultants was named Marketing Recruitment Agency of the Year and Fresh was crowned Events Company of the Year.

Speaking of the winners Richard Draycott, managing director of MiNetwork, said: “We had a great number of entries in this year and clearly independent agencies are really pushing forward and expanding their businesses on many different fronts, both geographically and also in the services they offer.

“It’s great to see so many independent agencies from all areas of the UK here tonight to celebrate the independent agency sector and it’s refreshing to see that the so-called regional agencies can hold their own against the huge London networked agencies.”
