Facebook has appointed Steve Hatch, who joins from his position as CEO of WPP’s MEC, as its first managing director for the UK and Ireland.
Hatch brings 20 years’ media experience to the position and has been at MEC since it was first created as Mediaedge:cia in 1998.
He will report to Nicola Mendelsohn, VP for EMEA, who said: “Steve brings a strong strategic approach and impressive leadership skills to Facebook. His experience will allow him to take forward the existing collaborative approach Facebook has with clients and brands to drive creative results throughout the UK and Ireland.”
Commenting on his departure from MEC, Tom George, chairman of UK and Northern Europe at MEC, said: "Steve has been with MEC since its inception in 2002 and has made a massive contribution to MEC's achievements over the years. I’ve worked very closely with him since I joined in 2005 and I know it was a difficult personal decision for him to make.
"We obviously will be sorry to see him go, but he leaves MEC as one of the UK’s most accomplished agencies and on the best possible terms. I and everyone at MEC wish him all the very best for his future at Facebook. Under Steve's leadership he has built an extremely strong management team and I will be working alongside them as we determine his successor to ensure the continued success and growth of MEC in the UK."
Prior to his role at MEC, Hatch spent time at Unilever, BMP DDB and PHD. He has worked for client accounts such as Sony, British Gas and the BBC.
