Debenhams will officially launch its Christmas ad during Wednesday’s episode of Coronation Street, the same slot M&S has booked to unveil its “magical” seasonal offering.

Debenhams’ TV ad, from JWT, runs with a festive twist to its familiar ‘Life Made Fabulous’ strapline, instead using ‘Wishes made fabulous’.

In a similar adaptation to the retailer’s autumn/winter ads, a Christmas version of the song ‘Youth’ from Foxes has been used, this time involving a choir.

For the first time, the brand will also show the spot in cinemas in the seasonal push while a deal with The X Factor will allow viewers to shop the ad instantly using the show’s app this week.

"Our advert builds on the success of our autumn/winter brand campaign with our new creative concept and bigger, more cinematic approach to production,” said Richard Cristofoli, marketing director at Debenhams.

"It really captures the true sentiment of Christmas. It’s not quirky, or depressing, it’s all about celebrating moments that make Christmas special and about making wishes come true, no matter how big or small."

Supporting the TV ad is an online hub that grants people's festive wishes with £300 giftcards which is being pushed across social media with the hashtag #wishesmadefabulous.

Debenhams launched its first Christmas ad in six years last year, using the strapline 'Christmas made fabulous.'
