Smooth FM, claimed to be Australia’s fastest growing radio brand, is to become the first radio station to launch a television channel.

The station will be available via a Foxtel's subscription.

The station is owned by DMG, in turn owned by Rupert Murdoch’s heir, Lachlan Murdoch's private investment firm Illyria.

“The venture also means DMG can offer national and local advertisers a multi-platform sales proposition spanning radio, TV and digital media, which none of its competitors have,” the Murdoch owned ‘The Australian’ reported.

"Radio ratings are about brand recall and top of mind awareness. When people find a station and like it, they are incredibly loyal and stick,” said DMG Radio Australia chief executive Cathy O’Connor.

"Our job has always been about building awareness and now we have a TV channel to reinforce that awareness at a much faster rate.

"The music you see on Smooth will be a seamless experience from radio to TV."

The station launches on December 3.
