Southern Cross Austereo has announced an audacious move to target the older listener demographic with the launch of Triple M Classic Rock’s digital channel next month.

The station launches on November 25

The new station will be available online from November 25.

"It was always going to happen," head of Triple M Network, Mike Fitzpatrick said in a statement.

"The evolution of Triple M is such that we wouldn’t be playing the music we do today if it wasn’t for the pioneers of rock music who paved the way.

“The 90s and new format is powering on FM these days so we’re proud to bring you Triple M Classic Rock on digital radio, paying homage to those original masters."

According to reports, Triple M Classic rock will playlist artists including AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Queen, Skyhooks, The Angels and Neil Young.

The station will be available in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide & Brisbane.
