Facebook announces advertising surge of 66 per cent

Facebook has just announced its third quarter financial results, which show a 60 per cent increase in overall revenue, and a 66 per cent increase in its advertising revenue over the same period last year.

In its statement, Facebook said that mobile advertising revenue represented approximately 49 per cent of advertising revenue for the third quarter of 2013.

"For nearly ten years, Facebook has been on a mission to connect the world," a statement attributed to founder Mark Zuckerberg accompanying the results said.

“The strong results we achieved this quarter show that we're prepared for the next phase of our company, as we work to bring the next five billion people online and into the knowledge economy."

Revenue for Facebook’s third quarter totalled $2.02bn, up from $1.26bn in the third quarter of 2012. Revenue from advertising was $1.80bn, up 66 per cent increase from the same quarter last year. 49 per cent of advertising revenue came from mobile advertising.
