X-Factor Australia win marred by online racism
Last night’s X-Factor Australia winner Dami Im was subjected to online racism via Twitter within minutes of the announcement of her triumph.Im quickly responded by brushing off the abuse."Some people can be really racist. There's people like that in every country but most people have stood up for me and I didn't have to say a word,” she said.“There's more good people who respect me than there are that call me 'the Asian'. I have been so lucky and I am so thankful."Many of Dami’s supporters swiftly defended the singer on Twitter.Dami and her family moved to Australia when she was nine years old.
Dami Im
I don't really like Dami's voice or personality. But saying she doesn't deserve to win cause she's Asian is so mean and so unfair.
— Bronte (@bronteej) October 29, 2013Attacking Dami as Australia's X Factor winner because she is Asian makes you less of an Australian than you claim she is.... #xfactorau
— Matty Robinson (@goldcoastmatt) October 28, 2013Dami won X-Factor and I'm so proud. Finally, an Asian winner. But all these bastards have to ruin it by making racist comments on YouTube.
— Carmen (@cuppieeeee) October 28, 2013I'm actually proud of Australians for supporting an asian. They're not so racist after all. My love to DAMI & the supporters. #DamiArmy
— ✨지젤리아✨ (@suhoverdose) October 28, 2013Fuck there are some racist dick heads on facebook. Dami is a deserving winner. Just because she's Asian doesn't make her any less Aussie!
