Rick Bendel, previously CMO at Asda before taking a project-based international marketing role at Walmart, has left his job due to ‘health concerns’.

Bendel, who joined Asda as chief marketing officer in 2006, previously worked at advertising agency Publicis, where he handled the account for the supermarket giant.

He then moved to Walmart in 2012, with his Asda role replaced by Stephen Smith, who previously held the role of chief marketing officer for China.

The Grocer revealed that Bendel was leaving due to ‘health concerns’, with Asda president Andy Clarke telling the publication: “Last week, Rick told me about his decision to leave Walmart. On behalf of every Asda colleague, we wish him all the best.”

The Drum is currently awaiting comment from Walmart.
