South Australia, the state where Farmers Union iced coffee outsells Coca Cola by a margin of 3 to 1, is soon to be home of its own branded milk, after the South Australian Dairyfarmers' Association announced that it is to produce and sell its own brand of full cream and low-fat milk.

'SADA Fresh' is destined for the international market

It added that 40 cents of the proceeds from every two-litre container will go to a fund to finance projects to support the viability of South Australia’s dairy industry.

SADA president David Basham said the association had plans to export the branded milk.

“We could look at the international market, trying to attract another milk manufacturer into Australia,” he said.

The product will be packaged under a licensing agreement by Parmalat Australia, and sold via the Coles supermarket chain.

"Consumers now have a choice to support South Australian dairy farmers," Mr Basham said.

"Only South Australian milk will be in those bottles."

In South Australia, 220 million litres of milk are consumed each year.
