Samsung has been fined $340,000 by Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission (FTC) for hiring writers to post negative comments about competitors.

The investigation found that the tech giant had hired people to slam HTC products and praise phones created by Samsung.

Commission spokesman Sun Lih-chyun said: "This is the first case of its kind in Taiwan that a company has concealed its genuine status while attacking a rival.”

A small advertising agency appointed by Samsung division Opentide was also fined following the investigation.
