ChildLine has today unveiled a smartphone app and online resource, Zipit, to help tackle the prevalence of sexting.

Created with Livity, Zipit includes digital assets that use humour and confidence to defuse potentially damaging conversations and to help keep flirty chats in a comfortable zone.

“This activity is such an important area for us and provides young people with smart ways to back away from potentially pressurised peer-to-peer chats” Peter Liver, director of ChildLine services, said. “The campaign will provide information to help young people deal with the emotional impact of this phenomenon. With Livity’s support and expertise the team has come up with a solution that tackles the issue head on with a strong sense of humour and a feeling of control and style.”

The app will also contain tailored advice as well as information about how to contact ChildLine.

Sam Conniff, chairman of Livity added: “This is a very real and complex threat to all young people in the UK that needs an immediate and accessible solution. No one understands that challenge better than ChildLine and no one could have come up with such an effective and imaginative strategy than young people themselves. Livity is once again proud to be working alongside the team at the ChildLine and our own teams of young co-creators. We are confident that together we're launching a powerful tool that will help young people feel empowered to cool conversations down when dealing with potentially very damaging 'sexts'.”

The Zipit campaign will be supported by a mix of out of home and online advertising as well as vlogger amplication videos.
