The London Film Festival (LFF) led to 49,446 mentions on Twitter, making it the second most discussed festival behind Toronto’s Film Festival.

It was found that of those tweeting, 6.6 per cent expressed a desire to watch the films and be involved with the festival, with 12 Years a Slave; Gravity; Saving Mr Banks; Captain Phillips; and Kill Your Darlings being the top films in terms of discussion.

Marcos Angelides, social media director at Way To Blue said: “This year’s London Film Festival has thrown up a number of big surprises. Not many people would have expected ‘12 Years A Slave’ to gain more conversation than ‘Gravity’ or ‘Captain Philips’, yet the subject matter and performances have obviously struck a chord with audiences.

“Most importantly, we’re seeing discussion on its own isn’t enough to signify success at the box office. Which is why our studies on Propensity to View have uncovered some hidden gems, especially ‘Under The Skin’, ‘The Invisible Woman’ and ‘Nebraska’. Their online followers are exceptionally passionate about these films and eager to see them, suggesting they’ll do very well upon release.

“It’s good to see the London Film Festival is still a platform for smaller films to gain exposure and new attract, and long may that continue.”
