Multiplatform entertainment producer Endemol UK has announced a move into app publishing, launching new gaming apps based on the TV shows Pointless and Deal or No Deal.

Available on iOS and Android devices next month, the launches are led by the company’s gaming arm Endemol Games UK and are the first step towards the creation of a network of apps based on existing TV brands. Endemol will fund app development, with the apps created and published in-house as well as in partnership with specialist developers.

“Given how much fans love to directly engage with this kind of content we see exciting potential in building a far-reaching network of apps with a broad user base.

Pointless and Deal or No Deal are two of the most well-known and popular game shows on TV and are the ideal brands to launch this initiative,” said Jurian van der Meer, managing director of Endemol Games UK.

Developed with Jam the Pointless Friends app allows friend to compete against one another via Facebook or mobile online platforms. Players will have an online profile showing their game history, which they can share with friends answering hundreds of different Pointless questions across one or two player modes.

The Deal or No Deal app, developed with Redwind Software, sees users take on the shoe’s infamous Banker, playing solo or against Facebook friends or random opponents online.

The move into app publishing builds on Endemol’s record of licensing its brands for mobile apps, such as The Million Pound Drop which has had over 2.5 million downloads to date.
