‘Go home’ billboards will not be repeated, Theresa May announces
A billboard van campaign which told illegal immigrants to ‘go home’ will not be rolled out nationwide because it “was not effective”, home secretary Theresa May has said.
The controversial vans, which read "In the UK illegally? Go home or face arrest", appeared in several London boroughs as part of a pilot scheme.
The campaign was described as "stupid and offensive" by business secretary Vince Cable, although immigration minister Mark Harper had suggested that the vans could be rolled out nationwide if the campaign had been deemed effective.
However, May has said that the billboards were not effective, and therefore will not be repeated.
