Micro blogging service Twitter has poached an advertising executive from Google to head up its retail division as part of efforts to bolster its business ahead of an initial public offering.

J.J. Hirschle, former director of media and entertainment advertising at Google, will transfer to the social media staple to head up a team flogging advertising products to retail companies.

Hirschle will assume these responsibilities on 28 October, joining around 2,300 fellow employees at Twitter accrued from recent expansions.

Coincidentally Twitter will also commence its investor road show that day when it seeks to win over Wall Street ahead of share trading from mid-November.
