Nike has upgraded its novel FuelBand concept with the release of a range of colourful hi-tech wristbands designed to harness the processing heft of the latest smartphones.

The Nike+ FuelBand SE will be made available in pink, green and orange and comes with Bluetooth 4.0 capability to improve battery performance.

This dovetails with an update to the Nike+ Fuelband fitness tracker, which is now capable of keeping tabs on individual workouts and calculating how much ‘fuel’ the wearer has burned in consequence.

Other new features include Fuel Rate which indicates how rapidly users are burning fuel, giving a handy indicator as to which activities generate the greatest benefit.

More prosaically the device can also tell the time, available by simply double tapping the band.

The FuelBand is scheduled to be launched on 6 November for £129.
