Weber Shandwick has promoted associate director Conor Magowan to the role of director of public affairs.

Magowan takes responsibility for the firm’s public affairs division across Scotland as part of his new remit.

In addition to Magowan’s promotion Weber Shanwick has announced that six new consultants will also be joining the agency as a direct response to its growing Scottish business.

Sarah Durno, Jenna Ciancia, Sarah Ward and Cleo Comerford have joined the firm’s public relations team, Niki Birrell moves from the Scottish Liberal Democrats to take up a position in Weber Shanwick’s public affairs team, and Jim Moore has been appointed to the firm’s design arm.

Moray Macdonald, managing director of Weber Shandwick Scotland said Magowan’s promotion was “testament to the contribution he has made to our growing business over the past 12 months”.

Of the new hires Macdonald remarked: “The addition of six new members of staff in our Scottish business will allow us to continue to deliver fantastic results for our clients.”

Magowan added: “This is an exciting time to be part of Weber Shandwick. We’re continuing to grow and strengthen our offering across public affairs and public relations and to deliver engaging and impactful campaigns for our clients.”

The news follows last month’s announcement that Stewart Argo, formerly media manager for City of Edinburgh Council, has joined the firms Edinburgh office in a senior PR role.
