Kelloggs has partnered with Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery on the launch of a new exhibition based on a Rice Krispies Squares advertising campaign.

That TV ad depicts a local shopkeeper who ostensibly creates the 11th most popular tourist attraction in the UK courtesy of a sculptural figure composed entirely of the cereal bars.

It closes by declaring ‘It’s all lies’, reminding viewers that Rice Krispies Squares aren’t actually square.

To follow-up that campaign Kelloggs will assist in the design of an exhibition based on the advert; including a spoof news report on YouTube claiming that the museum had won a bidding war for the sculpture, paying £23m to secure it.

The video has racked up close to a quarter of a million views since its launch three weeks ago.

Included in the exhibition will be a number of design stages, 3D renders, maquettes, photographs, the Rice Krispies Squares bars used and the original hand from the giant sculpture.

Cllr Bob Johnson, Doncaster Council’s cabinet member for culture and tourism, said: “We contacted Kellogg’s via Facebook after seeing the television advert to see if we could work with them on an exhibition for the museum.

“The advert proved a real talking point in Doncaster so we believe the exhibition will create a real sense of fun and drama in the museum – in fact we’d love to make it the 11th most popular tourist attraction in the UK!”
