Buzzfeed appoints The MediaBriefing editor Patrick Smith as media editor

Editor of media website The Mediabriefing, Patrick Smith, is to depart after three years to join BuzzFeed as media editor.

Smith, who made the announcement in a blog post on the website and another on his own personal blog this morning, said that he would be working from the Buzzfeed London office when he takes up the role in October.

“I’m as proud of the achievements with TMB as anything I’ve done. However I’ve been a reporter/editor on the media beat in B2B publishing for seven years, so now feels like the time to move on and do something different,” he explained.

Smith, a former reporter for Press Gazette, joined as editor of the website in August 2010, while also serving as a visiting lecturer to City University London during that period where he taught digital journalism skills.

At the time of writing, it was unclear whether a successor would be appointed.
