Apple’s interest in producing wearable technology continues with reports that the company has hired Nike director Ben Schaffer, who was involved in the development of Nike Fuelband.

According to 9to5Mac, Schaffer, studio director of Nike’s product design unit, Innovation Kitchen, which most recently produced the company’s Flyknit Shoe, has joined Apple as it looks to grow its development of wearable gadgets, with the much rumoured iWatch still on the cards.

Schaffer joined Nike in 2001 as a footwear designer, before being promoted to innovation lead in 2007, and then moved to head up Innovation Kitchen four years later. Innovation Kitchen is the arm of Nike known for having developed Fuelband and the Flyknit shoe, designed to fit the wearer like a sock using wrap-around cables.

In a video interview (see above) Shaffer discussed his role at Innovation Kitchen and work on Flyknit.

Neither Apple, nor Nike, have commented.
