Google’s secret and highly refined algorithms which have made the search engine the Go-To place for the world’s web browsers have been updated.

The changes will impact 90% of all Google searches

The refinement is intended to provide more accurate responses to lengthy prose questions typed into the search engine, which have become more complex as the web has evolved.

The update, entitled project Hummingbird, has been rolled out over the last month, with no details being disclosed of the specific changes.

“Hummingbird represents the most dramatic alteration to Google's search engine since it revised the way it indexes websites three years ago as part of a redesign called Caffeine,” said Amit Singhal, a senior vice president for the company.

The changes, which will have widespread implications for all sites dependent on Google based traffic, may impact Google ad prices and affect traffic across the globe.

Singh said the refinements will impact 90 per cent of Google search requests.
