With Apple's smart watch, reportedly to be called the iWatch, still lurking in the shadows, Samsung is said to be limbering up to release another version of its smart watch, the Samsung Gear, as soon as early 2014.

The Samsung Gear: Fast changes on the way?

This one will answer complaints of a poor battery life and it will also give wearers GPS, whose lack was also a source of griping at the launch on September 4.

Forbes contributor Larry Magid said of the limited battery life “It’s one more thing to have to remember to charge up everyday and its charger is one more thing to have to take with you when traveling.”

The Gear will cost $299 when it launches in the U.S. this October.

The question is: Will Apple launch the iWatch without those defects before Samsung gets a chance to redeem itself with the 2014 revamp?
