Mubaloo staff reshuffle ahead of second German expansion attempt

Mobile app developer Mubaloo has announced a staff reshuffle as the company prepares to expand into the German market after a lack of demand for the service ended a 2009 attempt.

Janine Nitz has been appointed to lead the expansion into Germany while marketing manager Sarah Weller will become London managing director to drive growth in the UK operation.

Ben Reed, head of iOS, has been appointed head of technology and the company hopes to create another 20 jobs between Bristol and London once the expansion gets under way.

Mark Mason, CEO and founder of Mubaloo, said: “The decision to grow London was easy. A large number of our clients are based there and it’s where the opportunities are. Sarah’s passion for mobile and Mubaloo has always been clear. Sarah was the obvious choice to lead London through its growth.”

Meanwhile, the company said the decision to make another attempt in the German market came after an increase in commissions over the last 12 months from organisations based in the country.

“We made a mistake by opening in Germany in 2009,” Mason continued. “The market wasn’t ready and we didn’t have someone who understood our business well enough.

“This time, Janine will be based in our Bristol office for the first few months to allow her to fully understand how we operate and work closely with the project teams and developers.

“We see the German market as a huge growth opportunity for us. At the moment, we are looking for organic growth though if the right acquisition opportunity came along, it is something that would be strongly considered.”

ComScore data from December 2012 revealed that smartphone penetration in Germany has now reached 51 per cent.
