Google has acquired smartphone data sharing app Bump, which allows mobile users to share photos and content by simply bumping their phones together.

The app, which reached 60m downloads two years ago, is expected to be integrated into Google’s Android operating system as a result of the deal.

Bump CEO David Lieb, posted a blog on the Bump website so state that the team was “excited” about joining Google.

“Our mission at Bump has always been to build the simplest tools for sharing the information you care about with other people and devices. We strive to create experiences that feel like magic, enabled behind the scene with innovations in math, data processing, and algorithms. So we couldn’t be more thrilled to join Google, a company that shares our belief that the application of computing to difficult problems can fundamentally change the way that we interact with one another and the world.”

He added that Bump and Flock, the group photo-sharing service it launched last year, would continue to function as normal, with new updates due.
