Australian media has not taken kindly to a Daily Mail label of “sour grapes” after accusing England cricket players of urinating on The Oval after their 3-0 Ashes victory.Australian publication the Herald Sun led with the story about the “British tabloid” Daily Mail’s response to their story and pointed out that UK sports minister Hugh Robertson had criticised the players.Mail Online said in its coverage of the incident: “The story has come from the Australian media, who could be accused of sour grapes after their team lost 3-0 after a five-match series this summer.”The Herald Sun called it a “distasteful display” and said a number of players, including Stuart Broad, Kevin Pietersen and Jimmy Anderson could clearly be seen taking it in turn to urinate on the pitch during post-match celebrations and were cheered on by fellow players. While fans had already left the ground, some members of the media and clean-up staff remained.Meanwhile, according to the Daily Telegraph, an investigation has been launched into the incident and Surrey are likely to ask for an apology from the England and Wales Cricket Board.UK sports minister Hugh Robertson said: “If it happened it’s not good behaviour.”A number of jubilant England players took to Twitter to share their post-match celebrations, including Matt Prior, who tweeted a picture of the players having a beer on The Oval pitch after the English victory.
