Craig Mather, the Rangers chief executive, has appointed Media House, the PR firm which used to represent Rangers FC, to help him in his fight against investors seeking to oust him from his role.

The appointment of Jack Irvine comes only a fortnight after the agency’s agreement with the club ended, as well as in the same month as a statement was released saying “Finally, Jack Irvine of Media House does not speak for this club.”

According to the Evening Times, the Rangers Supporters' Association, Assembly and Trust do not support the appointment, saying in a joint statement: "We are saddened to hear of the return of Media House to Ibrox considering their spectacular failure to defend the reputation of the club and the fans during their previous tenure despite being specifically hired for that purpose."

A group of shareholders, led by Clyde Blowers chairman Jim McColl, is seeking to oust Mathers, along with financial director Brian Stockbridge and non-executive director Bryan Smart.

James Traynor, head of communications at Rangers, expressed surprise at the announcement, telling the Scotsman: “I have not spoken to Jack Irvine and I have not had any dealings with him. As far as I’m concerned that is the way it will stay.”
