Instagram, Netflix and Vine were amongst the services which were knocked out yesterday, following a glitch by Amazon's cloud-based network, which hosts the services.

It has been reported that the problems were caused by a data centre in northern Virginia, which was struggling to keep up with demand.

The outage comes just a week after the Amazon site itself was down for almost an hour, with suggestions that the down time cost the company $5m.

Yesterday, services were down from nine pm BST (four pm Eastern time) and lasted for several hours.
