Air New Zealand helped Auckland-based couple make history this week by taking them up to the skies to make their vows as same-sex marriage became legal in New Zealand.

Lynley Bendall and Ally Waniku tied the knot after almost 14 years together aboard a special Air New Zealand flight from Queenstown to Auckland.

Air New Zealand chief people officer Lorraine Murphy said: “The atmosphere onboard was incredibly festive and the applause following the couple’s vows was heartfelt. It was a great celebration of New Zealand’s diversity.”

The pair set off on another flight after their wedding celebrations to enjoy a honeymoon in Los Angeles.
