Instagram has told third party developers that they can no longer use the words ‘insta’ or ‘gram’ in their name, as well as warning over logo use, as the brand aims to crack down on confusion.

Instagram has stipulated in its branding guidelines that third party companies should not use logos similar to its camera image, and has warned against copying “the Instagram look and feel”.

The guidelines also state that companies should not use the Instagram stylised font in product or marketing materials.

Talking about these rules, Instagram said: “These rules are intended to promote consistent use of the Instagram brand. This makes it easier for people to instantly recognize references to Instagram and prevents consumer confusion.”

Currently, there are apps called Instagalley, Webstagram and more.
