Reviews and recommendations platform Yelp has announced that it is to become fully mobile compatible by allowing its users to post reviews direct from their mobile devices.

Already available on iOS phones and tablets the functionality will soon be rolled out across Android platforms, helping the service to drive interaction with nearly 10m unique mobile devices each month.

To post a review users simply click a ‘write a review’ button incorporated under each business featured on the app, which can then be posted directly or saved for a later date, although short entries may be labelled as a ‘tip’ instead.

This follows the implementation of a ‘Nearby’ service which recommends services to users based on reviews, friends’ reviews, time of day and even the weather as well as ‘Platform’ – which allows customers to book or order direct from reviews.

Elliot Adams, communications manager at Yelp comments: “Our ultimate goal at Yelp is to make the content as helpful as possible for people looking to make a spending decision. Having to wait until you get home to say what you think is a thing of the past - if you’ve had a wonderful experience, you want to shout about it there and then. This evolution into mobile reviews is part of Yelp’s continued effort to create a useful, content-driven platform that is of great benefit to both customers and local businesses.”
