Be On, AOL's branded content division, has carried out a study looking at the social video strategies of sports teams and how engaged their fans are.

Football clubs dominate the top of the list with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City the top teams, respectively, scoring the highest Social Video Equity (SVE) of all the English Premier League clubs.

Rene Rechtman, CEO at Be On, said: “Brands should take note of how sports teams leverage video to build and engage their audience and social equity online. As generation social continues to switch off from more traditional forms of digital advertising, brands are increasingly looking for ways to instill loyalty and excitement in their audiences.

“The sports clubs we analysed benefit from having some of the most dedicated fan bases in the world, but they also recognise that their relationship with viewers needs to be rewarded with great, emotional content they want to watch, whether it’s offering exclusive footage or making use of their players’ popularity to secure engagement.”

As well as football, Be On looked at other sporting, including cricket, F1, NBA and NFL.
