Manchester United has announced a five-year sponsorship deal with African consumer finance company, afb.

The deal will see afb become the Kenyan producer and marketer for the official Manchester United credit card in the country, with the club apparently having an estimated 5.5m followers there.

Richard Arnold, group managing director of Manchester United, said that the club was pleased to offer another manner in which Kenyan fans could engage with it.

He continued to described afb is “a new and exciting company” and said that the club had been impressed by “its determination for growth in its industry” having expanded across numerous markets in the four years since it was established.

“They are an ambitious company that is committed to promoting responsible banking and we are looking forward to a successful partnership,” he concluded.

Karl Westvig, group CEO of afb, added: “We want to give Manchester United supporters the opportunity of getting closer to their club, and we hope that the millions of fans come and enjoy this unique offering. We are expecting a significant amount of fans to apply for the limited edition MUFC credit card in the coming months.”

Incentives for fans to use the card include signed shirts and branded merchandise, as well as the opportunity to attend games at Old Trafford.
