The London Fire Brigade has launched a #fiftyshadesofred hashtag in a bid to eliminate the embarrassment factor from its interactions with the public.

This parody dovetails with a new campaign designed to draw attention to the embarrassing predicaments from which members of the public have had to be rescued by the emergency services.

Amongst the roll call of unusual call outs are nine instances of men dialling 999 after inadvertently lodging their penis in a ring. In fact trapping the organ in unusual objects is a common occurrence for the brigade with one man even managing to find his way inside a toaster and another finding a new use for a spanner.

These toe curling episodes were joined by 79 cries for help when kinky handcuff sex resulted in the key going AWOL.

Third officer Dave Brown is keen to point out that there is a serious side to all thi hi jinx, pointing out: “I’d like to remind everyone that 999 is an emergency number and should only be used as such. When firefighters are out attending to some of these avoidable incidents, someone else could be in real need of emergency assistance. If there’s a genuine emergency, fire crews will of course attend and will be on the scene to help within minutes.”
