A year long survey of 15,000 computer users in Australia has concluded that users of Apple manufactured devices are more engaged and in tune with technological developments.

Are you Apple or Windows?

The report authors, Roy Morgan research, said an Apple computer user aged over 50 is as likely to stream TV as a Windows user 18 to 24.

“Compared to Windows Home Computer users, Apple Home Computer users are more likely to stream music and radio as well as download movies, videos, television shows and music,” George Pesutto, Media and Communications General Manager at Roy Morgan Research said.

“Apple users tend to be more engaged with a wider array of internet activities and adopt at a faster rate, including ecommerce, online banking and over-the-top activities such as Skype. They are also more willing to embrace new technologies, and are 61% more likely to own or use a Tablet than Windows users.

“This data is in line with the Roy Morgan Technology Adoption segmentation, which shows that Apple users are 65% more likely to be early adopters of technology, compared to Windows users”

The research was undertaken between July 2012 and June 2013, sampling 13,812 Windows users and 2,141 Apple based users.

“Across all age groups, Apple Home Computer users are more likely to stream videos, TV or movies than Windows Home Computer users,” the research concluded.

“Overall, Apple users were twice as likely as Windows users to stream TV through sites such as ABC’s popular iView (18% to 9%), and almost three times as likely to stream movies (8% to 3%). Only among 18-24 year olds are Windows users marginally more likely to stream video than Apple users (80% to 79%), however they are still much less likely to stream TV or movies.”
