Security camera footage circulating on YouTube has shown the terrifying moment a train derailed in north-western Spain on Wednesday, killing at least 78 people and injuring more than 140.

One of the drivers of the train en route from Madrid to Ferrol has been placed under formal investigation amid Spanish media reports that the train was travelling too fast as it approached a bend.

The video shows several carriages derail before the front of the train crashes into the camera.

Spanish PM Mariano Rajoy has declared three days of national mourning.
