A survey of 1300 Australians has concluded that online search has become the preferred route for sourcing tradies.

82% now source tradies online

82% of those surveyed said they were ‘extremely likely’ to trust a search engine to find their next local tradesman, bypassing the advice and personal recommendations of friends and family.

Only 23% said they would be ‘extremely likely’ to ask friends and family for their recommendations, and only 9% aid they would use their local newspaper.

The survey found that prior experience of a tradesman was less likely to be the best source of finding a tradesman; only 30% said they would be ‘extremely likely’ to employ a business they've used previously.

Marcus Lim, who undertook the research said new innovations, far beyond the power of simple search engines, have helped Australians get the jobs done they need, at the best possible price.

"The survey results we are revealing today show some interesting insight into just how people are using the web to find these local businesses and individuals,” he said.

“We're seeing a huge spike in demand for local businesses, and its clear that consumers now realise the benefits of dealing with open work histories, prior customer reviews, transparent pricing and quoting, and ease of use.

“No more trawling through the Yellow Pages, scouring for that pamphlet, or going through endless pages of search results without really knowing if the provider is the right fit for you.”
