Havas Worldwide New York has announced that Walt Connelly has joined the agency as global executive creative director of Merck Consumer Care, the 38th-largest national advertiser in the US, spending more than $1bn in global advertising.

Reporting to Lee Garfinkel, chief creative officer of global brands at Havas Worldwide, Connelly has been tasked with specifically working on the Claritin and Afrin accounts.

Connelly’s appointment marks his return to the agency, having previously served as global creative director back when the agency was known as Euro RSCG New York.

"Walt has defined the identity of numerous global brands during his career," said Garfinkel. "We're proud to have him join us, and honoured to add his talent to our work for Merck Consumer Care."

Connelly has overseen and developed global work for brands including HSBC ‘Your Point of View,’ the Microsoft campaigns for Office and Bing; and the Kleenex ‘Let it Out’ campaign.
