As The Open Championship gears up to begin next Thursday (18 July) sponsor MasterCard is set to launch a campaign using tactical and localised marketing activity to target, sport and golf enthusiasts.

The ‘Priceless’ campaign saw earlier activations in May, where cardholders were given the chance to play The Open Championship course.

The latest element of the campaign sees cardholders able to win a chance to meet and have a chat with golf pro Graeme McDowell; bring the Claret Jug back to their own golf club for the day and to experience VIP Hospitality Pavilion tickets and grounds tickets with access to the MasterCard Club in the spectator village.

Paul Trueman, head of marketing at MasterCard UK & Ireland, said: “We are committed to giving even more back to golf fans, helping them to get inside the game to celebrate The Open. The recent four-ball promotion gave a lucky cardholder and their friends a chance to play nine holes with Ian Poulter and experience something truly Priceless.

“The exclusive experiences will continue with cardholders and golf enthusiasts getting the chance to relax and have a beer with Graeme McDowell, enjoy the luxury of the MasterCard Club and even ask Tom Watson questions on his golf success. This is all part of our Priceless campaign where MasterCard gives you more by rewarding its consumers and The Open Championship takes this programme to a global level.”

The current marketing activity to drive awareness includes bespoke golfing advertorials with Sport magazine, radio and online promotions with talkSPORT and ForthOne 97.3 Edinburgh and place bar advertising.
