Alan Partridge has responded to a Twitter campaign to stage the world premiere of his TV-spin off in his home town by announcing a special lunchtime screening in Norfolk’s Anglia Square on 24 July.

Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa will be aired during a special lunchtime screening before fans in the Norfolk city with partridge appearing in person before flying south to London in a chartered helicopted for a later Leicester Square screening.

Producer Armando Iannucci made the announcement via his Twitter account, alongside a statement issued by Partridge himself.

It read: “You can imagine how hurt and litigious I felt when people said I was planning to debut my movie in London instead of Norwich, or that I'd allowed my head to be turned by the prospect of big city fame.

“Any suggestion I've hastily cobbled together the lunchtime Norwich screening in response to a local Twitter campaign will be met with the full force of the law."

The film will go on general release nationwide from 7 August.
