Clive Palmer’s audacious plans to launch a media empire under the banner of the Australian Times may have encountered an unexpected obstacle.

The Australia Times

The business name ‘The Australian Times’ has evidently already been claimed by an “independent, grassroots” publication.

The online publication says it will oppose Palmer’s potential use of the name.

The “Australia Times” commenced publishing online during June. Its founder, David Abouav, describes the venture as a “free, non-aligned, grassroots, national online publication. We are a blend of professional and citizen journalism.”

“We would like to establish relationships with retired, amateur, or student reporters, photographers, and other interested persons in all parts of Australia,” he says.

“We also welcome all Australians living abroad who would like to join us and contribute content.”

It has been reported that Abouav has secured funding his venture for the next five years.
