The Australian Motor Show 2014, due to be held in Sydney, has been cancelled due to lack of commercial support.

The Melbourne Event for 2013 has already been cancelled

The news follows the prior cancellation of Melbourne’s 2013 Expo four month ago.

“After careful consideration, we have made the decision to not proceed with the 2014 Australian International Motor Show,” Russ Tyrie, event director for the motor show said.

“This does not mean the end for Motor Shows in Australia though, with the AIMS Joint Venture currently developing and planning a concept for future Motor Shows.

“We are in the midst of extensive market research and undertaking discussions with industry and government stakeholders to determine a show model that can best meet the needs of the industry and the public.”

Last week, the Australian Motor Industry Federation called on the Government to provide a comprehensive policy for the trade after claiming the industry was at a crossroads.

Mercedes-Benz had announced plans to commission “special build vehicles” for the show.

In recent years, global motoring brands have elected to spend marketing budgets on trackside driver experiences and event sponsorship instead of motor show participation.
