With Don Mattrick, head of Xbox One and Surface development, leaving to head up Zynga as CEO, Microsoft appears set to appoint Julie Larson-Green to the job, as part of a wider management reshuffle at the firm according to a Bloomberg report.

It is expected CEO Steve Ballmer will officially announce the decision next week.

In separate news Bloomberg also reports that Skype president Tony Bates will depart in order to manage acquisitions and relationships with Microsoft software developers – although this decision is not set in stone.

Mattrick is leaving the Microsoft fold entirely to head up social gaming firm Zynga.

Larson-Green has been with the tech giant for 19 years and has overseen the launch of both Windows 7 and Windows 8.
