Whitbread, owner of the Premier Inn hotel brand, is looking to corner the budget end of the market with the roll out of a hi-tech ‘hub’ concept.

Sporting diminutive rooms measuring just 11 square metres in size, the foray will prize ‘price, design and location over space’, with rooms up 30 per cent cheaper than a standard Premier Inn hotel.

These will all come with fold away desks, a pocket-sprung bed and en suite bathroom.

Described as Britain’s first with its own app, guests will be able to book and check in online as well as pre-select room temperature and light settings.

Once ensconced people will be able to select entertainment channels on a 40 inch TV, as well as stream content directly to their phone or tablet whilst ordering food and drink.

Patrick Dempsey, the managing director of Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, said: "Hub will work in tandem with Premier Inn, appealing to more price-sensitive customers seeking quality accommodation in the heart of a city."

Whitbread has secured five sites in Britain for the concept in a three year development plan and will roll out the first this summer in London.
