The Prime Minister, David Cameron, has avoided answering directly why the Royal Charter on press regulation approved by the Commons has not yet been sent to the Privy Council.

David Cameron at Prime Minister's questions

Labour MP Ben Bradshaw asked the Prime Minister directly during his weekly appearance before MPs at Prime Minister’s questions.

Bradshaw also asked the Prime Minister to assure MPs and victims that the agreed plans would not be watered down.

Cameron responded stating that the government has to follow procedure set out in its legal advice.

He added that he has not changed his view and that the parallel Royal Charter proposed by the press has serious drawbacks.

He said that he had shared the legal advice on how to proceed with Labour leader, Ed Miliband, and deputy leader, Harriet Harman.

Earlier today, the Hacked Off group wrote to Maria Miller MP, secretary of state for culture, media and sport, urging her to implement the Charter agreed by the commons.
